Where I’ve Been – NYC

Finally made it up to New York City for the first time in my life recently for my mom’s birthday. It’s surprising that it’s taken me this long to get up there with how much amazing food there is. Here’s a few spots I was able to hit in the 3 or so days I was in town!

Brooklyn Diner – Times Square

Flip ‘n Toss – Greenwich Village

I'm a day late for National Burger Day but better late than never! @kyrenabeana has been following @flipntossnyc on Instagram and sending me their posts for awhile so when my parents and I were in NYC for the first time we just had to make a visit. I obviously had to go with their absurd Big Mac & Cheeseburger which is a double meat monstrosity, generously topped with mac and cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. My mom went with the Raclette Burger which had raclette melted cheese (duh), caramelized onions, mushrooms, and bacon topped with a truffle mayo. Be sure to swipe ➡️ to see the full big mac and my mom's burger! This is a must visit on your next trip to NYC, I guarantee it! My dad is one of few words and even he was remarking on how delicious the flavors were, so if you don't take my recommendation, take his! 🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔 What's the biggest and baddest burger you've ever had? This might be it for me!

I finally made it to NYC for the first time, surprised it took me this long? Yeah, me too! I knew when I visited for the first time I would need to make the trek down to the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn and see what @wdurney was doing at @hometownbarbque. Well, I'm here to report that he's doing the damn thang! Pictured here is the delicious lamb belly, their fantastic housemade sausage, their beautifully barked brisket and burnt ends. I have a bit more to share from my visit to Hometown but I'll spread it out this week to really highlight the amazing offerings they're serving up. Thanks again to @dtgill and the rest of the Hometown staff for taking the time to chat and show me around. Can't wait for the Miami location to open and see some of you down there!

Even though my trip to NYC was short I had to get my hands on some pizza. I know this isn't a stereotypical NY style slice but it was awesome! This is their Bee Sting pie with tomatoes, mozzarella, soppressata, chili flake, chili oil, and honey and it was damn delicious! I'd forgotten my parents hadn't been to one of these modern food halls but they got a kick out of the options at @urbanspacenyc Vanderbilt near Grand Central Station. It's a great way for a bunch of people to eat together but have a ton of different options. Every time I visit one of these in another major city I wish Austin's was better than it is but maybe one day we'll get another one more similar to what I see elsewhere.
