I really enjoy visiting Denver if not for the beautiful scenery and weather then for the excellent bar and restaurant scene. This list compiles the amazing establishments I’ve had the joy of visiting and I recommend giving these places a visit should you find yourself in the Mile High City!

Driving down Colfax in Denver you've probably noticed the big old Bastien's Restaurants sign advertising the home of the sugar steak and probably thought, "there's no way that place is good" but lemme tell ya, you're wrong! Decided to check this place out because I just loved the sign, the building, everything about it externally, and both @kyrenabeana and I are extremely happy we did! This is their bone-out dry aged ribeye sugar steak with veggies and mashed potatoes. Basically, a sugar steak is a mix of rubs including sugar that, while cooking, caramelizes and forms a beautiful and delicious crust on the steak that adds just a slight hint of pleasant sweetness and, I gotta say, this was one of the best steaks I've had in some time. There's a good reason Bastien's has been in existence since 1937, so what are you waiting for!?

Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs – Hot Dogs

Sometimes an unassuming place can surprise you like @bikerjimsdogs did for me in Denver. This was on my list of places to check out but I only ended up there because @soniamtz_atx and I needed a quick meal before a concert. This is a rattlesnake and pheasant hot dog made Sonoran style with pinto beans, diced jalapenos, tomatoes, onions, yellow mustard and mayo. Can't say I've had rattlesnake or pheasant before but it was pretty delicious. Sonia, being the ruthless girl she is, decided to order up an Alaskan reindeer hot dog because why not eat one of Santa's team? (I tasted it though and it was delicious, too) I also got a small order of fried mac and cheese and paired it all up with a knucklebiter (PBR and a shot of whiskey)!

Sometimes all you need is an American style breakfast and time with amazing friends which is exactly what I got at @denverbiscuitco in @ohheystanley. @kyrenabeana and I met up with our good friends @kaypeedoesathing and @withhighspirits over the weekend for Sunday breakfast/brunch and to catch up and spend some time together. I went with a biscuit plate with two eggs, sausage, ham, and a biscuit with grape jam and it was just the right amount to get my day started! After eating, we walked around the art festival they were having and we all wished we had more money to buy all the cool pieces we saw. πŸ₯šπŸ³πŸ₯šπŸ³πŸ₯šπŸ³πŸ₯šπŸ³πŸ₯šπŸ³πŸ₯š What do you tend to go with? Sausage, bacon, or ham? I'm a sausage patty kind of guy normally.

I may have found my new favorite restaurant in Denver… – This is Domo Japanese Country Food Restaurant and it's freaking amazing. Walking in to this place immediately transported me back to my vacations to Japan and I'm happy to report that the food lived up to that experience too. Pictured here is their pork katsu curry with their seven signature house sides (that come with every entree!), a cup of miso soup, and a crispy salad. The shocking part? All the food pictured here was only $17.50! 🀯🀯🀯🀯🀯 A great deal, in an awesome restaurant, in a cool ass city, is there anything else you could want? Put this place high on your list of must try restaurants in Denver!

When I was in Denver last week I mentioned I might've found my favorite restaurant there… 🍣 So I just had to go back, but this time I brought along my Japan travel buddies @kristenmilickins and @withhighspirits! This is Domo Japanese Country Restaurant and it's freaking phenomenal. Last time I was here I got the curry (which is what Kaypee got this time and loved it) but this time I went with their wanko sushi! I opted for the 5 course option and got a bit of Tamari SakΓ© (soy sauce salmon), Teriyaki Unagi (freshwater eel), Wasabi Maguro (tuna with wasabi), Masago Tataki Hamachi (yellowtail with Japanese mayo and roe), and Tamari Hamachi (soy sauce yellowtail) plus all of this comes with the seven country style side dishes and miso soup! The Tamari SakΓ© was so good I had to order another round of it and even convinced Kaypee to do the same. For starters we also had the original soy sauce flavored calamari which was πŸ’£ AF too. During this meal Max, no lie, said, "this may be my new favorite restaurant…"! This, above all other places should be on your Denver list of you're in to Japanese food of any kind! Trust me on this!

My final meal in Denver was tasty but somewhat confusing… πŸ₯˜ I visited @elfivedenver, the highly rated spot from the Edible Beats group also behind @lingerdenver, for my final dinner in Denver last week because it looked like a really cool space and I was excited to try some of their Spanish focused dishes. I ordered up their Carne Paella and although it was super flavorful and tasty I can't really call this a paella with all the unnecessary toppings such as padron peppers, aioli, and salsa verde. In fact, my buddy @atxcocktails asked me if I ordered nachos when I sent him a photo of this "paella" and it actually kind of angered him when I said, "nope, this is their paella" πŸ˜‚. Now, don't get me wrong, it had a really great flavor and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal but simplicity is preferred when it comes to traditional dishes like this. I don't think the additional toppings added anything to the underlying dish in the end so I'd suggest ordering it without that stuff, if you visit. The view from this restaurant is great, the staff is superb, the drinks are fantastic, and the food is flavorful if not a little over complicated.

Any time you walk in to a restaurant focusing on a specific nationality's cuisine and everyone eating there is speaking that nationality's language, you know you've found a good spot. 🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜 That's exactly what I stumbled in to with Kiki's Japanese Casual Dining! It was snowing and super cold out so I went with a simple, but delicious, shoyu ramen that included pork, onion, bean sprouts, cabbage, and green onion by default but I added in some corn for sweetness and a medium boiled egg! Paired this bowl up with a small cup of sakΓ© and went to town! 🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜 What's your favorite type of ramen? Is it shoyu, tonkatsu, curry, shio, miso, something else? Lemme know! πŸ‘‡

It's another #tacotuesday and again Denver knocked it out of the park with these street style tacos from @machetedenver near @denverunionstation. I don't recall who suggested I go here but I think it was my buddy @chauska and I appreciate the recommendation because these things were good! I got three tacos on my visit including the cordero (lamb), poc-chuc (pork rib meat), and a camaron (shrimp). My favorite was the lamb, on this plate, but they were all pretty damn delicious and this was a great way to end my time in Denver as I ate these just before heading to the airport to come home. So if you take the train to or from the airport and you're hungry you have a great place right across from Union Station to grab a quick bite before continuing your journey!

Growing up we didn't have stockings at Christmas, instead we had 'Santa Bags.' Santa Bags were brown paper bags filled with our favorite candy (@reeses for me, thank you!) maybe a @hotwheelsofficial toy car, and other small assorted items but the one constant was an 8oz glass bottle of @cocacola. So to me, a Coke will always remind me of Christmas so when my friends and I stopped in to @pokalolasocialclub and they had a boozy Coke influenced cocktail, I was all in! This is the Poka Cola cocktail made with fernet, rum, sweet vermouth, cherry, and mexican coke. This drink, the frigid Denver air, Christmas decorations, and some of my best friends around me really made me feel the holiday cheer. πŸŽ„πŸŽ…β›„ Did your family have an alternate, but special, way to celebrate the holidays? Fantastic Texas style BBQ in Denver? Yuuuuuuup! πŸ–πŸ—πŸ–πŸ—πŸ– Had the pleasure of eating at @postoakdenver on last week's trip out to Dever and whether you're visiting the area or recently moved there from Texas, you have a new beacon of deliciousness to flock to! I got to try their fatty and lean brisket, their jalapeno cotija sausage, their dry and wet smoked chicken wings, mac and cheese, and potato salad. Also, right as I walked in they ran out of their St Louis pork ribs but my neighbor at the bar got some of the last ones and he was awesome enough to let me snag one from his tray to try it out, but I ate it before I remembered to snap a photo! Rookie move… But this is the real deal, y'all, plus they're not scared to experiment so keep an eye on their specials for some really cool stuff. I'll definitely be back plus, on top of it all, they have a full bar with over 100 whiskeys available to order!

So evidently the guy behind @snarfssandwiches also has a couple burger stands called @snarfburger! πŸ” They're only in Denver and I happen to be here for work. I know, travel is a scary thought right now but I definitely feel safer in Colorado because they seem to have things a bit more under control unlike Texas's 5400+ new cases yesterday. Comparatively Colorado only had 188 new cases reported yesterday… 🀯 Anyway, I couldn't pass on the bologna burger which is a single meat burger topped with a thick grilled bologna slice, cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, mayo, and mustard. I of course didn't stop with just bologna, opting to add bacon to this beauty as well. This was an unexpected treat and honestly, while I'm here in Denver, I may just have to order from here again!

It's fancy Friday so why not treat yourself to some delicious sushi! This beautiful spread comes from @dencorner's Sushi Den in Denver. This is the Deluxe Sushi Platter
which came with one piece of tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and shrimp nigiri, two pieces each of tuna, yellowtail, and octopus sashimi, one tuna and one yellowtail hand roll, and a California roll. It was a lot of food but I knocked this one out and ordered a couple more pieces to top the meal off perfectly. Sushi Den gets all of their fish delivered fresh from Tokyo daily so it's a fantastic spot to get some high quality seafood in a land locked city plus they've been around for quite some time so you can bet on them continuing that trend!

You know I love stumbling across the neighborhood joints and I found a good one in Denver! πŸ€πŸ²πŸ—πŸ€πŸ²πŸ—πŸ€πŸ²πŸ— This is a little spot called @theblazingchickenshack and it's serving up a small but awesome menu of items including fried chicken, catfish, and gumbo! I went with the gumbo with cornbread muffin, on this visit, because I needed something quick on my way to the airport and it was fantastic. I also had to get an order of their red beans and rice because I'm a sucker for the stuff. All in this place is definitely feeding the locals and it just has that warm welcoming feeling you don't get from a lot of newer restaurants these days. Plus it's Fat Tuesday and what better thing to post on Fat Tuesday than a bowl of fresh gumbo?! So like the Cajuns say, laissez les bon temps rouler!

On our way up to Cheyenne, Wyoming we hit up @gquebbq in Westminster and as soon as we exited the highway @kyrenabeana saw they had an @oldspaghettifactory and she got so excited about seeing it that we had to eat there when we got back from our roadtrip. I went with their Meat Lover’s Treat which is their spaghetti topped with Sicilian meatballs, Italian sausage and their rich meat sauce but we also ordered up some of their Sicilian garlic cheese bread to munch on while waiting for the entrees. Happy that @kaypeedoesathing got to join us on this meal and get to share in the fun of experiencing a place that Kyrena's dad used to take her to as a little girl. 🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝 What's that one place you remember going to as a kid on special occasions that you loved? I'm not much of a planner when it comes to trips which allows me to do whatever wild thing pops in my head. On this trip to Denver with @kyrenabeana I suggested we road trip to Cheyenne, Wyoming for the day because neither of us had ever been to that state. While in Cheyenne we happened upon this awesome cocktail bar, @paramountballroomcheyenne. This bar is housed inside what used to be the lobby and front area section of an old theatre that is long gone but to maintain that history all of their drinks are named after plays and shows that once graced the stage that used to be there. This cocktail is The Girl in the Kimono mixed up with @suntorywhisky, strawberry, basil, lemon, and simple which made it quite refreshing to sip on their back patio/garden. Cheyenne isn't a very big city but it has a ton of character and history and was a great little excursion from Denver for a few hours.

Ramen – the ultimate cold weather food. 🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜 There's a cold front coming to Austin but here in Denver it's already cold AF with snow expected tonight so last night I hit up @tokio_denver to try out their menu. This is the Cremoso Diablo ramen made with a pork and chicken broth and filled up with chasyu pork, bok choy, bean sprouts, pickled bamboo, green onion, dry chili, spicy sesame oil, red pickled ginger, then garnished with cheddar & jack cheese which makes it quite creamy with a nice spice level. This bowl will help clear your sinuses and warm you up from the inside out. πŸœπŸ§€πŸœπŸ§€πŸœπŸ§€πŸœ What do you think about cheese in ramen? I wasn't so sure about it, but it was pretty tasty!

🍣Nigiri for daysss🍣 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣 @tokio_denver does everything from ramen to yakitori to curry to sushi so you know I had to try it all! This is a few pieces of nigiri including their unagi (freshwater eel), hamachi (yellowtail), sake (salmon), toro (tuna), and anago (saltwater eel). Each piece was a substantial portion with a great meaty texture that really hit the spot. Some places you go to slice the fish too thin so the ratio of fish to rice is off but not at Tokio! Located in a little area behind Coors Field it's a cool hideout to get some great Japanese food so be sure you mark this as a must visit on your next trip to Denver!
